What to expect from Footprints Felt Consuling Programs
Initial Consultation and Programming A Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) will observe your child in a natural environment, like your home, to make sure that the program is an appropriate fit and to do an initial observation of your child. The BCBA will talk with you about your child's strengths, weaknesses and behaviors. Once this is complete an individual program will be developed for your child.
Pairing and Compliance Phase The first week or two of therapy is a time for the therapist to "pair" or build a positive , reinforcing relationship with your child. It is not until the therapist is successfully paired with your child that the assesment or program can begin. Our goal is to have your child running to the therapist on arrival, not running away.
Assessment During the Pairing and Compliance Phase, the VB-MAPP and/or ABLLS-R are used to assess your childs strenghts and weaknesses so an individualized program can be created.
Natural Environmental Training (NET) and Table Teaching Once the assessment is complete, structured teaching begins. The keys to successful implementation of the program are:
*Therapy Space: A space in your home for therapy is essential. BCBA will provide all materials for teaching.
* Reinforcers: Reinforcers are highly motivating items. Your BCBA will ask you questions about some items your child prefers and we will also do a preference assessment with items to establish other unknown items.
* Documentation: Your child will have a program book to maintain data that is essential to tracking your child's progress and moving the program forward. You will receive monthly updates but at any time you have questions about data or programming this will be provided at your request.
