What is Autism? A neurodevelopment disorder characterized by significant impairment in social interaction, deficits in verbal and nonverbal communication, repetitive behaviors and restrictive, obsessive interests.
What is Applied Behavior Analysis and Verbal Behavior (ABA/VB)? Behavior Analysis is the scientific study of behavior. Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is the use of those techniques and principles to address socially important problems and to bring about meaningful behavior changes. ABA assumes that children are more likely to repeat behaviors that are "reinforced" and that they are less likely to continue behaviors that are not "reinforced". Eventually that reinforcement is reduced so that your child can learn without constant reinforcement. Verbal Behavior (VB) is an ABA method used to teach and reinforce speech along with other skills.
